The firebrick made by sintering or electric melting mullite as the main raw material can be all mullite, part of it or corundum as the raw material. The former is called mullite firebrick, the latter is called corundum one mullite firebrick or corundum mullite brick. The production process of mullite refractory brick is the same as that of high alumina brick.
Sintering temperature and ingredient composition, the purity of raw materials and requirements related to the performance of refractory brick, usually for 1500 ~ 1700 ℃. Mullite firebrick and corundum mullite brick have the advantages of high softening temperature under load, low creep rate at high temperature, good thermal shock resistance, etc. They are widely used in blast furnace hot blast furnace, glass melting furnace, dry quenching coke and heating furnace. Mullite refractory firebrick is easily eroded by alkaline firebrick under high temperature.
In addition, at high temperatures, mullite can react with water vapor to form Al2O3 and be damaged. (mullite brick characteristics therefore, mullite firebrick should not be used in the environment of high alkaline slag and high water vapor content for a long time. In addition to mullite and its composition with corundum composite refractory firebrick, mullite can also form firebrick with other materials to improve its performance, such as zirconium mullite firebrick, mullite - silicon carbide firebrick.
The so - called zircon mullite firebrick is mullite - zirconia composite material. However, due to the high price of zirconia, zirconium mullite clinker or refractory brick is often made by Al2O3 or alumina reaction with zirconium quartz in actual production. The manufacturing methods of such refractory bricks and raw materials include electric melting and sintering. Electrofused alumina - zirconium - silicon (AZS) refractory bricks are discussed in this paper. Calcining Al2O3 and ZrSiO4 ingredients to produce zircon mullite clinker, and then crushing, mixing, molding and firing to produce zircon mullite firebrick, namely sintered AZS brick.
